What's Fresh This Week: Friday, June 12th Market

For families swept up in the festivity-filled final weeks of the school year, dropping into last Friday’s market provided a welcome breather. Jake Geppert performed a mellow setlist stocked with rock and blues favorites, including The Allman Brothers Band’s “Melissa”. Goodman’s American Pie’s pizza truck pulled in market-goers too tuckered out from the week to face their kitchens; their market special was topped with a trio of market offerings, including kielbasa from Wallingford Meat Locker, pea greens from Evening Song Farm, and rainbow swiss chard from Deep Meadow Farms.

In their first appearance at the market this season, Fernleigh Cellars of Springfield introduced their uniquely Vermont product, maple wine, with complimentary samples of three varieties. Winemaker Erin Hunter described the wines’ unique flavors and uses with helpful comparisons to better known after-dinner drinks, “Our Maple Reserve Amber is reminiscent of sherry and could double nicely as a topper to baked brie or crème brûlée. While our Maple Reserve Special Dark brings you closer to brandy or a port wine that could be used as a part of a reduction over pork.”

We hope to see you out at this week's market!
